Why You Want to Journal In Your Scrapbooks

We?ve all looked through photo albums. There are page after page of photos. If the photo album belongs to someone else, we often must force a smile as we flip through page after page of photos that mean nothing to us. Even if the photos are photos of our relatives or closest friends, if we weren?t there, seeing hundreds of photos of someone else?s trip or someone else?s party can be a bit unexciting.

Journaling is what makes scrapbooks different than photo albums. Even if you wanted to journal in a photo album it would be tough. There is no space. There is just enough room to put your photos. Scrapbooks have entire blank pages that you can put both words and photos onto.

Journaling helps us and whoever else might be viewing the scrapbook know what the photo is, who the people in the photo are, what year the photo was taken and even how the photo taker felt about the photo.

If you come from a large family, you might have many photos showing a beautiful buffet table. Without journaling, it?s almost impossible to know if this buffet was from Thanksgiving or Mom and Dad?s surprise anniversary party.

Maybe this was the year that Uncle Tom had surgery and was not at the party. Just one line of journaling can trigger your memory reminding you that Uncle Tom was not there. You can even use a sticker of a hospital and underneath, write ?Uncle Tom?. Not all journaling has to be long and detailed. Those two words are enough to tell the story. If I were to look at a friend?s scrapbook and see a hospital with the words ?Uncle Tom?, I might ask if Uncle Tom was in the hospital, or I might ask for the rest of the story.

Over the years, I have taken many photos of those I?ve met on my travels. When my kids were small, I would strike up conversations with other moms. When we have taken trips, we?ll strike up conversations with others on the tour, or with others visiting the same attraction we are visiting.

Without some minor journaling as to who these people are, and where we met them, that memory might be lost.

My sister made a scrapbook for my daughter, showing every birthday party from the first up until about the 13th. Without the year the photos were taken in this scrapbook, it would have been very tough to know the 3rd party from the 4th, or the 8th from the 9th. My sister added either a year to the page (as a title), or the actual age of my daughter that year, so we knew exactly how old she was throughout the scrapbook. Some pages the years were hand written and some years were done with stickers.

Words tell the who, what, where and when of the photographs. Try adding a few words of journaling to each of your scrapbook pages and see if the results have both you and others smiling as you flip the pages.

Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines

Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines
Nic Sheff was drunk for the first time at age eleven. In the years that followed, he would regularly smoke pot, do cocaine and Ecstasy, and develop addictions to crystal meth and heroin. Even so, he felt like he would always be able to quit and put his life together whenever he needed to. It took a violent relapse one summer in California to convince him otherwise. In a voice that is raw and honest, Nic spares no detail in telling us the compelling, heartbreaking, and true story of his relapse and the road to recovery. As we watch Nic plunge the mental and physical depths of drug addiction, he paints a picture for us of a person at odds with his past, with his family, with his substances, and with himself. It's a harrowing portrait -- but not one without hope.

Customer Review: insight into daughter's addiction

Excellent book, very well-written. It provided much insight into my daughter's recovering addiction, and I greatly appreciate the honesty. Some questions I could not ask were answered in the book. It is very graphic, however, be fore-warned; but it is worth reading.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightful James and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen." --Jim Emerson

Customer Review: not good at all

this movie is not worth being called a cult fav, i have no idea why it ever became so popular... and p.s. i actually do like james and the giant peach, just not the nightmare before christmas its soooo bad i will never watch it again.

Customer Review: Nightmare Before Christmas DVD

Seems that most people either love this movie, or hate it. We LOVE it!! Very artistic, great music, BRILLIANT!

Customer Review: One heck of a product.

I've been an avid fan of WD for years. Whenever I did have a problem with any of the drives I was always able to get assistance from support line.

I bought the triple connectivity drive (eSATA.) I have to tell you this is one of the quietest drives I've ever (not) heard. It's fast and friendly and works like a charm.

Highly recommended!!!

Customer Review: Bye by My Book

My Book has gone into the dead cockroach position. It is dead as a door-nail. I need to contact WD to see if they will stand behind their product.

Customer Review: Do Not Buy this Drive!

Like others reviewing this product, I too, wanted to like this drive. Do not waste your time and money on this product. I have a MacBook Pro and I do a lot of presentations which requires a lot of storage. I thought this drive would fit my needs because it had a small footprint, complimented by computer and had multiple connections (e.g. USB, Firewire). At first the drive seemed fine, and then it started to hang up. It's flashing light went back and forth like a Cylon eye in Battlestar Gallactica. It just would not connect anymore. I was using a firewire connection. I turned the drive off, rebooted the computer and that did not work. I then switched to the USB connection and that worked for a day or so and then the drive did the same thing again. So I switched back to the firewire connection and after a couple of restarts it worked again.

So now I am thinking I have a defective drive, so I order a replacement (not from Amazon but from the Apple Store where I purchased it. I love Amazon don't get me wrong.) The replacement came and did the same exact thing.

My conclusion is that this drive is not reliable and I am not going to trust my files on this drive. I am on Amazon today to find another solution. Please don't let the looks fool you, beauty is truly on the outside of this one and the inside needs some work!

Customer Review: This could be a great drive

I have the exact same problem as the previous reviewer. The drive hangs up and freezes the Mac (Mini Mac running Leopard); and the Mac is indeed "too stupid" to quit trying. I found that if I leave the computer for a few hours and come back the drive is dead and Timemachine is hung.

It can be jump started by unplugging the firewire cable AND the power cable and putting it back together. This frees up the Mac but the drive does not come back. There may be a better way but it seems I have to re-boot the Mac before the drive is recognized and shows up on the desktop again.

I found a firmware upgrade (because of Leopard) on the Western Digital website that I applied. It now hangs and freezes a little differently but in fact still hangs and freezes.

It looks good and WOULD be a great value if it worked. The bottom line is it doesn't work; so don't waste your time, skip this drive and skip the problems; Mac owners deserve better than this.

It does have Firewire 400 and 800, USB2 and eSATA and I found you could reformat it for the PC... I don't know if you'll have the same problems on the Windoze machines but why try? Just pass it up.

Customer Review: defence?

let me say ive spent at least 100 hours on nfl street one and maybe 15 hours on nfl street 2. 2 things that make this game very bad the defence sucks in this game, yes i know how to use the defence but it takes a long time to force tons of fumbles and interction are luck for the most part. The rosters are like 3 years old and you cant trade players to make your team somewhat updated. This game is good but if your going to play online you better step up your game, because it doesnt matter how good you are offline. They need to make a nfl 3 with updated rosters you can load off the online service.

Customer Review: Pretty good

The game is great for a street ball game. But I'm used to games like Blitz. I was kinda disappointed that you can tackle anyone once a play is over...unneccessary roughness is one of the best parts of playing football.
