No Need For Second Hand Gardening Books Here's Some Great Tips To Start With
Learn How To Prune... Garden Climbers, Blueberries, Grapes, Bramble Fruits & Roses Easily
Garden Climbers: Wisteria, honeysuckle, trumpet vine and the like all need attention from time to time. Do not wait until the plant is an unpromising snarl. While it is young, train into a neat, well-spaced pattern. Then, every year or two, during the plant's resting period, prune out twiggy growth, overcrowded shoots and dead wood. During the growing season immediately clip off any tendril that pulls away from the support or hangs downward.
Clematis is a special case. Some bloom best on new wood, some on older wood and some on both. In late winter it is suitable to prune out some of the tangle to achieve an orderly appearing plant. After new growth is well along in early spring, prune out any dead or weak wood. As flowers fade during summer, pinch off overly vigorous or badly placed tendrils. You may not have the largest flowers possible using this method but you'll have a large, vigorously blooming sampling.
Blueberries: Prune these so there is about the same amount of well-spaced one, two, and three-year-old wood, nothing older. This year's growth bears no fruit. Second-year branches bear the main crop, third-year branches also bear very well, but are becoming too woody. Older wood will fruit, but when old wood is present, not much vigorous new growth breaks and the plants tend to decline.
Grapes: Consult your County Extension Agent for specialized instructions that match local conditions. Generally speaking, the standard grapevines are trellis-grown with a main trunk and two or four permanent lateral arms that produce carefully spaced and limited year-old fruiting branches. The Southern-type grapes, muscadines and scuppernongs, grow rangier.
They have a lot more vine and longer year-old fruiting canes. Vinifera (European wine grapes) vines are pruned to a stump, from which come quite a few fruiting canes in the spring - possible as these fruit on the current year's wood. All grapes are pruned in late winter when the plants are at highest dormancy. Avoid summer pruning as much as possible. A spring-pruned grape may bleed to death.
Bramble Fruits: Blackberries, raspberries, dewberries and all their relatives bear the best fruit on year-old shoots. Determine if your plants are spring-bearing or overbearing. If spring-bearing, remove the spent canes as the crop finishes in early summer. At this same time a good crop of new canes should be growing from below.
Use a cane hook or a heavy knife to remove all but three to five of the strongest, best-placed ones by making a clean cut at the stump. It is a good idea to spray these cuts, if possible, with tree-wound dressing. If the new growth is overly enthusiastic, top it at a convenient picking height. If not, tie to prevent wind whipping over winter. Early next spring as buds begin to swell, cut back to picking height; strong side shoots will break, and these will bear fruit.
If your plants are overbearing, you should leave the fruit-bearing canes until the end of the summer to encourage that choice early-fall crop of berries. This makes tending the brambles over summer somewhat difficult, because you have to work around the old canes while developing the new ones.
Roses: In spring, cut hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas and polyanthas back to healthy, undiscolored wood with sound pith. This may mean cutting almost to the graft union (be careful not to cut below it) but keep as much healthy wood as possible. Retain three to five sturdy well-spaced canes and get rid of spindly, crowded or injured ones. If side branches are present, save only those growing toward the outside of the plant, and condense these to two or three strong buds. Until midsummer, pick your roses with short stems, and when you cut a spent flower or take blooms for the house, cut to the uppermost leaf with five leaflets that points toward the outside of the bush. This retains the maximum number of blossom-producing buds and keeps the plant open in the center.
In the fall, before putting the roses to bed for the winter, pull the canes loosely together and tie them with a piece of soft cord; if you live in a very windy area, reduce the canes to about 30 inches after the leaves are dried by repeated frosts. Fall pruning is moody, as it may stimulate growth during winter.
Treat shrub roses as you would any flowering bush. Each winter consider the removal of one or two of the oldest, woodiest canes in the center of the clump and with a sharp spade remove crowded or weak new shoots. During summer reach in with the clippers to clip back new basal shoots to two or three leaves.

Customer Review: As good as you can get for the price
I was a bit concerned by other's reviews regarding the edges curling but tried an in-store demo prior to purchasing it at the best price I could find- here at Amazon, and didn't find it to be a huge deal. I do find there is a slight curl but for me it seems go away as the pages sit on my desk and the color is far more superior to other demos I tested in the same price range so I'd definitely recommend this printer.
Customer Review: Brother HL-4040Ccn
Good value. Printer was easy to install: Remove from the box; install toner cartridges; connect to my network. The installation CD made it easy to connect each of my computers to the printer (I run both Windows XP Pro and Vista Home). Print quality is very good. Printer goes to "sleep" mode when not being used and is fairly quick to change to print mode when a page is sent to it. Delivery was quicker than the estimated time. I'm guessing it was sent by truck because the well packed box was too large to come by FedEx or UPS.
High Sierra Tank Messenger Bag
High Sierra Tank Messenger Bag
On wheels or on foot, there's nothing like the ready-for-action Tank to keep your cargo safe and sound. This over-the-shoulder pack keeps you comfortable with an adjustable shoulder strap featuring a large Vapel mesh shoulder pad. When you hit the road hard, the adjustable front flap with hook/loop closure and zippered slash pocket are more than prepared for a bumpy ride. Lifetime warranty.
Customer Review: A Little Larger Than I Expected, but still a great buy!
I absolutely love the color of this bag! The plaid also adds detail to an otherwise plain bag, something I was looking for, among all of the plain bags on the market today. It was a little larger than I expected, or wanted, but its size can be attributed to it being very wide and thin. I can fit several text books side-by-side and my laptop inside, yet I don't feel like I'm carrying a bulky backpack around with me. I really like the two mesh pouches on the sides; it's very convenient for carrying multiple drink bottles. The quality is excellent. I've only had it for a few months, but it has not started to show signs of wear yet.
This is an excellent bag for someone looking to carry around a large amount of stuff with them. If all you plan on carrying with you is a notebook and a few pens, look for something else that's smaller. If you were like me, and looking for something to carry several books and a computer in, then this bag will suit your purpose to the letter.
Customer Review: This is the bag for kids to take everything they need to school!
This messenger bag was exactly what I wanted. Both the size and color are perfect. My kids have had problems fitting notebooks into the size of most backpack made these days and they would die before pulling a backpack with a handle. A three ring binder fits easily in the messenger bag and the second opening fits my daughters lunch box. Both compartments have room to spare. The smaller pockets and the zipper pocket on the flap give tons of storage. The shoulder strap is padded for comfort and adjusts. This is a great bag! The quality is there. This isn't going to fall apart any time soon. Your kids can actually fit the things that they need to take to school in it. This was a REALLY good find!
Once
Once
Winner of the World Audience Award at Sundance, Once starts out as a small-scale romance, like Before Sunrise, before arriving somewhere unexpected. An Irish busker (Glen Hansard, the Frames and The Commitments) meets a Czech flower seller (Markéta Irglová) while singing on the streets of Dublin. (In the credits, they're listed as Guy and Girl.) She likes what she hears and lets him know. Turns out she's a musician, too. They work on a few songs together and a friendship is forged. She lives with her widowed mother, who doesn't speak English. He lives with his widowed father, who owns a repair shop. Since he broke up with his girlfriend, the guy has been drifting, unable and unwilling to get his life in order. The girl encourages him to pursue a record deal, and the guy emerges from his funk. Then he makes a move on the girl, who rejects his advances. He's confused, but as he comes to find, there's a reason she's keeping her distance. Though Once is filled with appealing folk-pop by Hansard and Irglová (released on CD as The Swell Season), the movie isn't a traditional musical, but rather a more optimistic Brief Encounter. Filmmaker John Carney, Hansard's former bandmate, captures the real city--in all its affluence and poverty--rather than the picture postcard version. His beautifully shot film serves as a heartfelt ballad about all the underclass Guys and Girls swept aside amidst Ireland's economic miracle. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Customer Review: Once
I was expecting a much better love story with what was written about it. It was terrible! Then at the end we were waitin g for the end and there was none. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Also very hard to understand at times.
Customer Review: love, life, and beauty
When you reach a certain age, romantic comedies have no ring of truth to them. This movie is different. It is about shared passion - musical passion - shared loss, shared friendship - and unrealized love...because adults cannot usually indulge in love.
This movie acknowledges the pain of love - and still makes you want to go for it. It is real - and really - what more can you ask of a movie?
