All's well, that ends well. We have now come to the ending of book of the month club. Until we meet again, adios.

You Have To Promote Your Books - No One Else Will

Someone once said, "You don't have to write something that is particularly good, just something people will buy to read."

I've often given that advice to those who email me asking how to get started writing. It is excellent advice. However, one thing that I have learned is that there is a consequence to following this advice. If people do not like what you've written, and they've shelled out money for it, they feel entitled to tell you off, big time. Upon occasion, they even go to the extent of threatening you physically.

There was this woman from Albany, New York, who actually wrote a "reader's review" (gross misnomer) on Amazon.com. She threatened to come to where I live in Mexico and "slap me." See what you have to look forward to as a writer?

Although it would be great to write something good that earns you a literary award as well as being something people buy, this is rarely the case. The buying part of writing far outweighs the fame when you are trying to pay the rent and buy food with the income you earn from your scribbling.

Saleable writing today is more often a matter of promotion than good writing. You should try to do both. You should write well and sell what you write. However, the selling part is more often the pragmatic choice. There are a lot of writers who certainly are not literary geniuses but they consistently write what their readers want. Those are the ones who make money.

Information is very valuable and people will pay dearly for it. If you want to eat, pay the rent, buy clothes for the kids, correctly promoting that print, eBook, or report makes the difference between success and failure.

I had to learn this lesson quickly when we wrote and published our first book. When you are a "nobody" in the publishing world, you often have to settle with small, independent publishers who have absolutely no promotional budget for your book. Basically, they get it into the market. That's all. If you want people to buy your book, so you can get that new pair of pants, you have to be the one to promote it.

Quickly, you have to figure the ins and outs of book promotion. It is riding on your shoulders and no one else's. If you do not shamelessly promote yourself, trust me, no one else will do it for you.

The immediate painful reality is that you will never, as a sole individual, have access to the distribution channels that big name publishers have. So, unless you are wealthy, you have to choose one or two of the venues you can realistically afford to tackle and go like gangbusters.

If you can afford it, you could hire a private publicity firm to do what a big name publisher would do. But, because few of us can afford to do this, we have to think creatively.

Because I write non-fiction, I was able to find scores of tight-niche websites that were thematically related to my book. I wrote a book on relocating to Mexico as an American expatriate. Can you even begin to imagine the websites out there related to my book? It is a goldmine. Consequently, with small text ads, I have been doing rather well in sales on Amazon.com and am consistently in the top ten of my book's genre.

I also found related sites where I could post a thumbnail picture of our book's cover, a description, and a link back to Amazon.com. These cost very little money. One lady posted my ad in exchange for ebook versions of two of my books. So, you can barter for advertising if you have something of value to offer.

You can offer to write an article or two for someone struggling to find content for his fledging website. You must insist you will write the article for FREE if the website owner will post a link back to your book.

You can also tell them, as an incentive for a permanent link, that they can earn a commission on sales of your book if they sign up?and it's free?with Amazon.com's Associate Program. I am on many thematically related websites because I suggested this. The website owner gets a commission; you get free advertising, and everyone wins.

Something that really is grossly underestimated is writing free articles with a bio or "resource box" at the end of the article with your book's info in it. I write for FREE for several online magazines that post my books, their website links, and my bio. They, in turn, get my content. I get free advertising and free exposure.

I am convinced that most, if not all, of our book sales come from doing this little-known method of book promotion.

Press releases, targeted ads, link exchanges, writing FREE articles in exchange for posting your book at the end of the article, are all ways to promote your book when all you have is yourself as your publicity agent.

Go for it like gangbusters as though your life depends on it.

And, it just might!

Using Scrapbooks in Doctors' Offices

There are so many specialty doctors that could benefit from using scrapbooks. I remember when my mom had surgery on her neck. She wanted to know where the incision would be made, what the scar would like and wanted to understand the actual procedure. How nice it would have been if the doctor had used a scrapbook of real photos to show her what she could expect.

I remember when my dad had surgery; it was a long complicated procedure. The doctor did try to explain, however a scrapbook of the step by step procedure would?ve been incredibly helpful. His recovery was estimated to be about six months. Again, photos showing the progress he should see over that six month period would have been wonderful.

Plastic surgeons often have photos that show the procedures they perform. They can usually show patients before and after photos of other patients who have had the same procedures. Orthodontists and oral surgeons have long been showing photos of real people to help show their current patient exactly what one can expect from the corrective procedures.

When we were visiting a dermatologist, we saw a lot of photos, photos of real people that had been put together in a photo album. What were lacking were the words. The difference between a photo album and a scrapbook are the words, the journaling; the actual story. Having a few sentences of what medication or what procedure led to the after pictures would have been wonderful.

I can see a benefit to cardiologists having a scrapbook that shows the many procedures they perform and helping patients understand exactly what they can expect. I can see podiatrists using a scrapbook to show before and after photos to those facing foot surgery.

The unknown is what causes many patients to experience fear. They just don?t know exactly what to expect. Many procedures today are performed as outpatient, as they are common ?simple? procedures, but as a patient there is still the element of the unknown.

Next time you meet with your doctor, offer the suggestion of a scrapbook to help ease some of the fear patients feel when preparing for a medical procedure.

Scrapbooks Can Sell Beds in Nursing Homes

One of the most difficult decisions an adult child may have to make is whether or not to move an aging parent into a nursing home.

There are many factors that can lead to this difficult decision. Perhaps the parent can no longer take care of themselves. This may be due to a weakened physical condition or it might be a medical condition such as Alzheimer?s.

Not all nursing homes are the same. What better way for a nursing home to show what they have to offer than through scrapbooks?

When a parent does have to move into a nursing, even if it?s a temporary move, they want to be able to have some sense of familiarity. A scrapbook showing personal bedspreads on beds can be helpful in showing that residents can indeed some of their own belongings.

Is there a closet in the room? Show the closet door open with clothes hung inside. This again shows a family that the future resident will be able to bring an assortment of their clothing with them. Is there a dresser in the room? Are residents able to have a few knick knacks and photos on the dresser? If so, take some photos of current resident?s dressers, showing the personalization each resident can create.

What about meal time? Where do the residents eat? What does their tray of food look like? When we eat in restaurants, the chefs work very hard at creating a plate that looks very appealing. They mix color. They choose foods that compliment each other visually. What does the nursing home do? Do the trays of food all look pale and bland? Or do the plates of food look appealing and attractive? Show breakfast trays, lunch trays and dinner trays.

What activities are offered? Is there singing? Are there movies shown? Are there arts and crafts programs? Is bingo offered? Seeing photos of residents attending programs will help in making the decision to purchase a bed from your facility. I would want to see happy, smiling faces of people involved in activities through out the week.

By creating a scrapbook of all the reasons why someone should choose your facility, you?ll ease the minds of those making this very difficult choice.

Make Money Writing And Selling Ebooks

Many people these days are interested in learning various ways to make a good income without ever having to leave their home. Some open up their own businesses whereas others work in various job roles via online means. One way in which individuals have learned that they can make money is by selling e-books. There are a few tips to follow when interested in learning how to get rich with this lucrative online business.

Focus on a Topic of Knowledge

Prior to selling the e-books, an individual has to write the book first. The best type of book to write and ultimately sell is one which focuses on a topic that the writer is highly knowledgeable about upfront. This is beneficial for two reasons. First, by having the knowledge to write the e-book the individual is preparing a well thought out book that will offer real advice or information to the purchasers of such books. Secondly, when a writer has a true sense of knowledge with relation to a certain topic they will be able to write in a fast, efficient manner thereby getting it out to the purchasers much more quickly.

Read Up on How to Prepare and Sell the E-books

In order to truly learn the best way to go about preparing and selling the e-books, writers should read up on the subject. This may provide them with helpful tips along the way and let them know how to get started with the sale aspect of these books. There are books available today which provide individuals with helpful insight from start to finish and this may be a good way to learn selling techniques as well as writing techniques.

Advertise Effectively

Once the e-book has been written and it is time to put it out on the sales market, the author needs to learn how to advertise in an effective manner. Individuals who are searching for e-books online will usually only read the first few lines or paragraphs of the advertisement, so it is important to advertise effectively and efficiently right in the beginning. This can be done in a bullet format or paragraph format with bold headlines. Whatever one chooses it is important to emphasize certain selling points so that readers can skim through the information and have their eyes hit on certain statements.

Conclusion

These are some of the best ways to get rich selling e-books. This may not happen overnight but if one contemplates the previously mentioned items, they may find that the sale of e-books increase and they have a good shot at making money from selling them. There are a lot of topics which can be constructed into an e-book and all the writer needs to do is to simply pick the best.

Quickbooks Standard Payroll 2008

Quickbooks Standard Payroll 2008
An easy-to-use solution for doing your payroll essentials, in-house! Use up-to-date tax tables and automatic calculations to efficiently run your payroll directly from within QuickBooks-use your existing QuickBooks software or the included QuickBooks Simple Start CD. Standard Payroll is designed for small business owners who want to automate the payroll process, but don't need to file state payroll taxes or track more advanced calculations.

Customer Review: keeps me current

I figure just one error in payroll calculations and I would spend more than the cost of this software. I have used it for a couple years now and love that it updates and does things for me. I only wish this or the QB would allow doing gross checks and then calculate the taxes. To do that I have to buy a different version of QB. Not worth the extra money for the few checks I write. But for payroll calcs it is a good thing to have.

Customer Review: Don't pay full price of $199.95!

Payroll is available for half price if you shop around. I don't mind supporting Intuit's greed at $99 a year - a business with 2 employees shouldn't have to pay the same price as one with 50 employess!

Revolver [UK]

Revolver [UK]
Revolver wouldn't remain the Beatles' most ambitious LP for long, but many fans--including this one--remember it as their best. An object lesson in fitting great songwriting into experimental production and genre play, this is also a record whose influence extends far beyond mere they-was-the-greatest cheerleading. Putting McCartney's more traditionally melodic "Here, There and Everywhere" and "For No One" alongside Lennon's direct-hit sneering ("Dr. Robert") and dreamscapes ("I'm Only Sleeping," "Tomorrow Never Knows") and Harrison's peaking wit ("Taxman") was as conceptually brilliant as anything Sgt. Pepper attempted, and more subtly fulfilling. A must. --Rickey Wright

Customer Review: Taxman

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were the best song writing duo ever and that is without a doubt, thus this album is one of the best ever. Not one filler to be found here. George Harrison starts it out with my personal favorite Taxman and it just goes from there. Outstanding lyrics with Paul and John never sounding better.

Customer Review: Revolver

ESSENTIAL ALBUM!!! The Beatles so-called transitional album (going from a touring group to a studio only group) is one of their most creative. This album marks where they began experimenting in the studio, expanding their sound that would culminate with Sgt. Pepper's. The album features one of George Harrison;s best songs "Taxman", followed by one of Paul McCartney's best songs "Eleanor Rigby". Other outstanding tracks include "Good Day Sunshine", "Here, There and Everywhere" & "Got to Get You Into My Life". The closing track "Tomorrow Never Knows", though disowned by John Lennon, is one of Lennon's best songs leading the way to the psychedelic era.

The album cover also is one of the most unique ever done, it's artist is Klaus Voorman who would later play bass for Lennon on his early solo releases.

There is some filler here, mostly by Lennon, but it's great that we have the U.K. version instead of the illegitimate children that Capitol passed off onto the domestic market. I agree with some that this is NOT one of the best albums that they ever did, I reserve that for The White Album & Abbey Road. The one thing about the Beatles, though, was you never knew exactly what you were getting until you played it, which always made it entertaining!

Nancy Drew - Stay Tuned for Danger

Nancy Drew - Stay Tuned for Danger
NANCY DREW - STAY TUNED FOR DANGER (WIN 95,98)

Customer Review: Definitely NOT 5 stars

My conscience wouldn't let me leave this item with a 5 star review. My sister and I both agree that this was the worst of all the Nancy Drew Games. This was the only one where we got stuck and had to let the game sit for about 2 years before becoming desperate enough for a mystery game to go back and finish it. It's dry, dull and did I say "Dry and Dull?" Don't let this be the first or only Nancy Drew you buy. In fact, you should only buy this in the 4 or 5 pack like Nancy Drew 75th Anniversary.

The very first episode is difficult to maneuver since you have to change discs, but at least it was cute, set in a high school and a diner. The next couple of games are a little difficult to move around. But, by #3 Message in a Haunted Mansion and #4 Treasure In The Royal Tower they really start getting good. The best are (my order): Nancy Drew - The Secret of Shadow Ranch, Nancy Drew: Secret of the Scarlet Hand, Nancy Drew - Curse of Blackmoor Manor, Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, Nancy Drew: Danger on Deception Island, and Nancy Drew: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon. Though short and without as many fun puzzles and challenges, Nancy Drew: Secret Of the Old Clock and Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek were both very cute. And we still like to go back to Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave to go fishing, snorkeling and make necklaces.

I hope you have fun with these and I fervently hope that some other companies would catch on that there is a market for this type of lighthearted and low-violence gaming!!

Customer Review: cool game, good graphics

this is one of the better games if compared with the first nancy drew game.i would recommend this game to first time mystery game players.

BMW 3 and 5 Series 1982-1992 (Haynes Manuals)
Manuals for the Do-it-yourselfer. All Haynes manuals explain how to carry out routine maintenance, restoration and servicing of cars and motorcycles, and are aimed primarily at the Do-it-yourselfer

Customer Review: Buy another book. Any book.

Where can I start - I bought the Haynes manual to do some work on my E30. The book has two main problems - it doesn't contain the information you need, and some of what little information they bother to include is just plain wrong. It's the sort of book to put on the table in your reception area, if you're a dentist, where people will be so angry after reading a little of it that they'll forget their fear.

If you're thinking of buying the book, here's what to do: Decide on the jobs you need to do, try and figure out from the book whether it tells you how to do them or not (it won't); then buy something else. I'm tempted to go into detail, but really, everything in the book is tackled in such a superficial and unhelpful way that there's no one area I can spotlight. But I'll just note one of the deliberate errors.

If you need to change the water-temperature sensor which tells the engine management system how hot the engine is, just follow the instructions, using the picture provided. They're very specific about which is which... but you'll end up removing the sender for the water temperature gauge. How the guys in the parts department will laugh when they spend hours scratching their heads, trying to find a match for it.

Good luck

Customer Review: Better than nothing but the Bentley books are way better

This is a thick book with most of the information you need. However there are no good drawings and the photos don't help too much. They try to cover too much and are not organized enough. I don't think telling you how to take apart and put together stuff is enough. Diagnostic tips, like the Bentley manual is what you need. However, this is alot cheaper.

E-books: Fountain Of Wealth And Information

The Internet offers a wealth of information. However, for people who are looking for specific information it can be a double-edge sword. In today?s fast-paced society, not everyone has the time to go through countless pages just to look for a certain piece of information. Although there are a lot of search engines that could aid you in your search, browsing through the pages upon pages of results still eats too much time. Not to mention quite -- tedious. So what do you do? You get yourself an e-book.

Just what is an e-book? An e-book or electronic book is generally defined as a book in digital format. Readers have the option to either download it to their own computer, handheld or any other reader device. It can be read with the use of a software program, such as Adobe or Microsoft Word.

E-books are gaining popularity and the demand for it is consistently growing. Why you ask? Well, simply because it provides readers with various information of a particular niche at their own convenient time. What?s more, online businesses as well as land based ones have come to realize the vital role that e-books plays in expanding their businesses.

Another great thing about e-books is that aside from being a fountain of information, it also offers tremendous opportunity to increase ones income. Selling e-books is one way of effectively making money over the Internet. Most e-books sellers are known to buy good quality e-books at an affordable price along with their resell rights and then gain profit by reselling them at auction sites, such as eBay for a substantial sum.

One of e-books many advantages as a product is that the reproduction costs almost next to nothing. Moreover, there is no need to ship it so your customers get free delivery. The expenses you will make doing this type of business is considerably low, since web site hosting and payment collection made through 3rd party operators is quite cheap. Therefore, just about every sale made can be considered a profit already.

Another advantage to selling e-books is that there are no ongoing manufacturing costs, unlike in other tangible products. Once you have an e-book, you need not worry about losing profits due to expenditures that are normally associated with ongoing manufacturing. Compare to a tangible product, an e-book can be downloaded indefinitely and since it?s downloadable there is no the shipping. Furthermore, payments are made almost immediately since the transactions are normally done through a credit card merchant. Most importantly, customer complaints are next to none.

Selling e-Books is also very convenient and since it is mostly automaton, you can simply have it at the comfort of your own home. Since it?s mostly automaton, it can operate 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. You can even indulge in leisure activities without the worry of disrupting your business. E-book selling takes little time and effort because it does not entail the concerns normally associated with those of tangible goods. Thus, you have more time to focus on making up ways to strategically expand your business.

As for the e-book itself, you have the option to write your own or simply join an affiliate program and sell an e-book written by somebody else. Joining an affiliate program needs considerable though. One of the first things you need to do is to look for e-books with high demand. The next step is to hunt for e-books that are written by a reputable author, this is to ensure that the e-book is indeed of good quality. You also need to ensure that the e-books you pick are relevant to your web site. Another good idea is to pick e-books with resell rights, so that your customers can resell them too.

On the other hand, if you think that you?re competent enough to come up with a decent e-book then selling your own e-book is the way for you. Just make sure that your e-book?s niche has a high demand as well. It might also be a good idea to write something that you have a passion on. Writing about something that interests you can be quite enjoyable, not to mention less taxing. However, keep in mind that the main purpose of your e-book is to provide people with specific information. Thus, it is also imperative to know what sort of information you potential customers really need.

The so-called ?How to do books? are quite high in demand. This is mainly due to the fact that a lot of people need simple clear and concise information about a certain subject and are quite willing to pay for it. Interviewing expert regarding a certain topic is a good way to start. Who knows, it might give you an idea for a great e-book.

But most importantly, remember that your e-book is first and foremost a fountain of information before it?s a sales tool. Thus, it must be easy to read, organized, and enjoyable to read. Selling your own e-book is cheaper and less time consuming. After just a couple of hours of research you can have an e-book ready to be sold online.

Yet another great thing about e-books is that you can make a profit even if you are simply giving them away for free! How so? By giving away free e-books is an effective way of getting people to sign up to your list as well as to keep people to subscribe to your site.

Moreover, it can also help you to get more affiliates to promote your own product or services. You can offer free e-books as some sort of incentive for signing up in your affiliate program. Another idea is to go viral. Give away free e-books to increase awareness about your product.

Another way to make profit from giving away free e-books is that it can help boost your web site traffic. This is a very good idea especially if you wrote the e-book yourself. You can simply insert links so that your readers could easily visit your website, whether to look up for more resources or to get invite for more e-books.

Now, is it any wonder why e-books are all over the Internet today? So do not miss out on this opportunity to embark on a path to online prosperity.

Justice League - The New Frontier (Two-Disc Special Edition)

Justice League - The New Frontier (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Inspired by the best-selling graphic novel by Darwyn Cooke and produced by the multiple Emmy® award winning animation legend, Bruce Timm, The New Frontier is the epic tale of the founding of the Justice League. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are all here of course, and so are Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Flash - whose incredible origins will be told for the very first time. Strangers at first, these very different heroes must overcome fear and suspicion to forge an alliance against a monster so formidable, even the mighty Superman can not stop it. If they fail, our entire planet will be “cleansed” of humanity.

Customer Review: Terrible Convoluted Storyline - Poor Production

Anyone who is giving this a great review really does not know the comics or charicters very well. More importantly, they do not know what makes for great story-telling because this is a TERRIBLE story.

My credentials: Comicbook collector for 30 years. I own over 100,000 and have favored the DC characters since I was a child. I consider myself to be a knowledgable fan and expert.

The artwork in this film was not that great.....but that is ok. The voice acting was pretty good. The story line, plot development, and character backgrounds/definitions were probably the WORST of any animated movie I have ever seen.

Almost every scene had nothing to do with the next one or any other one for that matter. Almost every scene had nothing to do with how the story would progress or eventually resolve. Examples:

1: The first scene with Superman and Wonder Woman had nothing to do with any other point in the movie where they interacted with each other.

2: The story and development of J'onn Jonzz, The Martian Manhunter (which was a majority of the film) had nothing to do with anything. The story could have been told with the omission of ALL his scenes.

3: ALL the scenes of interaction between Batman and J'onn were irrelevant to the unanticipated role that Batman would play at the end. Eliminate all those scenes and the storyline would have been the same.

4: The main "bad guy" has been around for millions of years, then basically pops up out of nowhere (in terms of human history) and is then defeated in what I consider to be extremely easy fashion.

5: Said bad guy takes out Superman like he's a ragdoll but can't do the same with the Flash, or the humans that are attacking it?

I could list many more but I think you get my point. Bottom line; All this is is a collection of non-related scenes leading up to a lame conclusion. I am so very disappointed in Bruce Timm (normally an absolute genius), Darwyn Cooke, and especially Dan Didio and DC Comics for allowing this rubbish to be distributed.

As a DC fanatic, I cant help but notice the quality stuff being put out by Marvel. (Iron Man, Dr. Strange, and other animation). Come on DC.....you can be great again.

Customer Review: Not for kids

Great story, fairly graphic. Not for children under 13. Parents, I strongly urge you to PRE-view animated films before showing to children.

This is probably the best animated direct to DVD film Bruce Tim has done yet. Among other more super powered issues it touches on the witch-hunt politics of the McCarthy era.

Customer Review: Cute Webkinz

My daughter wanted a Koala stuffed animal & I figured the Webkinz would be a good choice (kill 2 bird with 1 stone). It is a very cute plush & of course my daughter loves the Webkinz world. I like that you get the 1 year membership plus an animal to play with. As for educational, I think the virtual world can teach some good lessons. My kids have fun earning money & spending it. My daughter accidentally sold all her furniture & had to buy that ugly primary bed to sleep until she had enough for the room she wanted. I'm hoping it will start to teach them some money lessons & they can make some money mistakes with Kinzcash vs. Real money, lol.

Best Sportsbooks

Betting on sports can be fun and exciting, but you also want it to be lucrative. Placing the rights bets based on the right information can mean all the difference between winning and losing and the best sportsbooks can help with that. The best sportsbooks don't just take your bets; they provide you with current information on how the betting odds and betting lines were established. They'll also give you solid recommendations based on this information.

For example, the best sportsbooks will know about injuries to key players and how they might impact the outcome of upcoming games. The best sportsbooks will also know about any internal problems teams might be having and be able to tell you which teams are hot and which are not. They will factor in all of the variables and this can only help you make the right decision. In other words there is a lot more to successful sports betting than just looking at team records.

The best sportsbooks are always looking for anything that will give their clients an edge. If you're winning consistently that usually means you'll keep placing bets with the sportsbook you're dealing with. You have confidence in their recommendations and you become a regular. Of course, it would be nice to just bet on your favorite team to win every game and beat the line, but you're better off with the experts helping you. So hook up with a good sportsbook and place your bets. You're odds of being a successful sports bettor will greatly improve.

Customer Review: Best product for comic lovers ever

Complete run, easy to use. Love, love, love this product. Shame on you Marvel for cancelling the contract with the company that produces these. I have been collecting comics for 30 years and have a massive collection, but this product was awesome for new readers that wanted to read entire collections. Unfortunately, Marvel pulled the plug, so planned collections for Thor, Daredevil and others may never see the light of day. At least we got a few before they got greedy. Snap them up from Amazon while you can, there won't be any more made!

Customer Review: Reliving my childhood

While I've found that I'm too mature for some of the comic book silliness, this DVD has been a great way to relive my childhood. I had a small stack of comic books when I was a kid, many of them FF, that I read hundreds of times, but without ever really being able to follow a story arc because I didn't subscribe and lived in the middle of nowhere. It's been great fun to bounce around across decades of comics, finding the origins of Galactus and Dr. Doom.

The format, of course, isn't as cozy as a real comic book, but with a decent laptop, I've been able to relax on the couch with them anyway.
